A tornado is not something easy to make. Atleast not on the epic scale i tried to do it in. But theres been a lot of cool features added to zdoom latley that would help this quite a lot, I might give this a shot actually.

You definitely should ;)

Updated the ash spawner. Now it randomizes how dark the particle is, to look more like ash (some remarked it looked more like snow).

After the contest, I might submit an alternate version of this using the ember sprites instead for floating cinders.

Funny thing is, I've written all kinds of neat effects for my own projects (gun smoke/bubbles, bubbles when you're underwater, a modular particle system that also supports mutilation and gore, weather, debries and so on...) but I'm not sure I could submit any of them for this.

Lots of ACS, not to mention I'd rather not see my shit in 111111 different WADs before I even release mine.

So, I guess I'm not gonna share. 8-)

(But I'd be open to helping out if someone wants a programmer on their side...)

Idea man here to save the day!

So I thought of a few more little SFX since no one else is seeming to put anything in here. Hopefully these might get this place up and running a little more lol

1. Leafs/trash/dust in the wind:(Now these three all act the same way but it just has different things blowing in the wind) A bunch of stuff that blow along the ground in the wind. This effect can be controlled with, the speed that the things travel, the amount of things are spawned, and the direction of where they are blown. There would also be variations of leafs and trash, so that it's not just the same thing over and over.

2. Meteor shower: Meteors are spawned from the ceiling and come crashing down to the ground. This can be used for a few things the way I see it. One way is for a far away perspective, or for a skybox. You make a skybox, make the environment look like hell fire and stuff, put in the meteors, and there you go. Now you look out a window or opening and you see a huge meteor shower right outside.
Another use for this is for making a hazardous field to run across. Like a mine field... only the mines are meteors and they are falling from the sky onto your head.
You would be able to control, what size the meteors are that are spawned, how much are spawned, and how much damage (if any) the meteors deal.

3. Smoke: This is more of what you would see at a fire. Smoke rises up into the sky from a point. This can be used for a sign of where to go next or for more realism for fires and such. I am thinking more forest fires and stuff but anyways.
You would be able to control how much smoke is spawned (this would make it seem that a fire is small or huge, more smoke = bigger/more fire). Anytihng else for smoke? This is all I can think of how you could control it :/

So there ya go. A few ideas that could be made for this event. Hope it helps get this place moving more lol

I like the meteors. If someone would make sprites, I could program that and make sound effects.

As for the smoke, sounds neat, but it could be a lagbeast...

Hey Torm, that effect could also look cool if there was one avaliable to have on the cieling, for use in a teleporter along with one going upwards.

Easy to do, simply use a negative speed for the appropriate argument (read the DOCUMENT lump)
