Those look good, I can imagine the bronze ones in an ornate temple area, and the silver ones in a cold chilly place. ;-)

The Doom ones are good but the top golden thing doesn't blend that well with the pillars, IMO

I really like the looks of these ones.

I think the Doom ones could work, but the gold seems a bit too bright. If you could darken that area or change change it to another suitable color then it may look better.

What's best in people's opinions: Heretic-like gizmos that summon their own orbs (gives a better handling of dynamic light and requires less sprites) or full gizmos with the orbs part of the sprite?
I want YOU to read the wiki.
And this one too. Also, SLADE3.

Expanding on that:

Advantages to separated orb:
  1. Fewer sprites required.
  2. Orb can be fullbright and have its own light.
  3. Orb can have other effects added, like bobbing.

Disadvantages:
  1. Orb must be spawned in such a way that it will follow the base.
  2. Orb can't be overlapped by the base without some sprite ordering assumptions.
  3. Orb may appear to be at the wrong height when the base is adjusted for clipping by GZDoom.

I thing disadvantage #2 would be the biggest problem with this particular sprite set.
