I just found a few screenshots from rf's Heretic/Zdoom mod and honestly, that's the quality we will aim for:

some shots of my map (in Doom builder 2 as I didn't want to restart my computer if gzdoom crashed and will get ingame shots as soon as I set up the lighting).
not much but at least I got some progress and the theme is going to be a basement that leads into a cave.

The dead golems and dragons and whatnot, combined with the molten floor and embers can be appetizing, but I'm not sure about that wall of skulls behind :-/
