Champion.wad - 0.00MB

Here it is - Undead Champion and his Ghostly friend, standalone. Keep in mind that they now inherit from Knight, not HPknight, due to this .wad file's standalone-ness lol. The sprites are based on a translation, but new sprites will be created to show them without a helmet and them being armed with a Dragon claw instead of an axe.

Just tried it out. It'd certainly be a nice monster for the Beastiary, if you get those new sprites, but the previous version (with Hexen Fighter armor) fits in with the original Undead Knights from Heretic better. It looks like an upgrade of the original.

Also, I noticed this guy basically does not miss. :P

Edit: Also, we could possibly roll the Death Knight and Skeletal Champion together somehow. Both are upgraded Undead Knights, and from what I've seen of the current Death Knight, they're about the same strength (thankfully not as powerful as the Demon Eclipse version).

I guess the new sprite design could incorporate HeXen fighter armor, all turned gold... I'm still leaning towards helmetless though as inspired by a quick sprite-up by Ettingrinder. Damn if only I had spriting patience, I'll need to set aside a day to come out with these sprites....

Agreed, also what Shadesmaster says about the Warrior armor sounds interesting if it's not too hard to incorporate.

Huh, I thought the Skeletal Champion had pieces of the Warrior armor already, but I just checked and apparently not. But yeah, it would look interesting. :P

It definitely needs them, otherwise it looks too simple. But what about the behaviour now? Do you think it's okay Ghastly?

Okay, I have one thing to say about the dragon-claw undead champion. I hate him. It's horrible, terrible, and awful. None of the Heretic monsters have hitscan attacks. Even for the player, they're quite rare (only two in the base game, which cease being hitscan attacks when powered up).

This change completely screwed up the balance of many WIP or completed maps by turning normal fight zones in Plutonia-style chaingunner gang rape playgrounds. Except that chaingunners in Doom II are easy to dispatch. Here, it's more like if you dehacked the Hell Knight to give it the Spider Mastermind attack.

It's horrible and I hate it. As far as the HPack champions go, guess what, my favorite is still the very first version: this one:
Code:
ACTOR Champion : HPKnight 16512
{
//$Category HPack_Monsters
  Health 300
  Obituary "$OB_CHAMPION"
  HitObituary "$OB_CHAMPIONH"
  Translation "0:35=[0,0,0]:[255,185,37]", "36:51=[64,48,16]:[255,185,37]", "145:168=[40,8,60]:[160,32,240]"
  Scale 1.1
  Speed 16
  Painchance 50
  DropItem "CrossbowAmmo", 84, 5
  +MISSILEMORE
  +MISSILEEVENMORE
  States
  {
  Missile:
    KNIG E 6 A_FaceTarget
    KNIG F 5 A_FaceTarget
    KNIG G 5 A_KnightAttack
    Goto See
  }
}
I want YOU to read the wiki.
And this one too. Also, SLADE3.

Absolutely agreed with Gez, I also noticed this will testing several other people's maps. The Champion as it is now is overpowered and the original variant was by far better.
