As of now, this time-line is supposed to be a little help to have a feeling when I plan what kind of stage for the project. It's not a "must happen" but it's some kind of guideline towards the whole development.

  • 2017/06/01: Release of "Blade of Agony: Shadow in the Dark" (Chapter 2 incl. Chapter 1 enhancements + HiRes sprites)
  • 2017/06: Advertisement wave 4/hype: News sites, social media sites, youtube and other channels with reviews and news
  • 2017/12: Advertisement wave 5/hype through social media channels
  • 2018/01: Release of "Blade of Agony: The Clash of Faith" (Chapter 3 incl. Chapter 1+2 enhancements)

Now that Chapter 2 has been unleashed, it is abotu time to plan our next steps towards Chapter 3, the final chapter of the game. This incorporates questions on how the plot evolves and closes at the end, what kind of maps we have in this chapter, and what general additions we will have in Chapter 3, like full voice acting which I consider to be the "special thing that adds upon C1 and C2 as well". An apropriate thread about the plans for C3 will appear here soon.

Concerning brightmaps for Hires sprites: keep in mind that we won't be able to see them properly in game until that Lowres / Hires feature will be added on GZDoom...

Otherwise I can rework boadefs.bm in order to check a different folder for Hires brightmaps (this would also mean that Lowres ones won't have fitting ones)...

I started with the advertisement hype now through the various social media channels and community forums to hype the Chapter 2 release a bit. This also includes updating the webpage screenshots with all the nice new stuff we have, mostly the hires sprites by Maxim. Something like a screenshot every 3rd day might do the job well. Later on short video clips from passages of Chapter 2.

Though to be honest, I don't think that we will meet the 20th of April for a C2 release but what do you think: How realistic is a release on May the 20th? It would mark the page's 17th birthday and feels like the right moment to do something major :)

What is left to be done for the release?
If I spotted it correctly, the hires-sprites for C2 are mostly done. One thing though is mapping which draws a lot of time yet (e.g. C2M2 isn't even finished yet, C2M5 needs gameplay work, but the rest looks nice so far and needs gameplay test. We can't start beta tests though before C2M2 isn't finished, that's where Guardsoul is in the spotlight. I will be able to finish C2M5 over Easter. The question is: What else needs work or left to be done? Dean is currently doing the wagons on C2M5 and he will continue working on C2M1 afterwards. I can take care of further work on the other maps, detail jobs, adding "unique" stuff to those. I will also try to add dialogue stuff to the missions as soon as C2M2 is done, so I can write up important things about the plot. Kevin can take care of proper language afterwards and Virgilio is taking care of brightmaps and Maxim's sprites, right? What else needs to be done? Please everyone give a short statement about this.

Keen r8 is unsolved.
Beside that, after mechanic is done, I'm not much aware of other c2-related tasks.

We need to finish the themed Hanses, that I remember, Dean can tell up more on that.

Keen r8 is something we will keep for C3. Currently we have 2 secret maps in C2 and a total of 10 maps when we are finished - this is 3 more than C1 - no need to add the secret maps already to C2, so we have time for that.

The themed Hanses would be cool but keep the ones with our faces to C3, that's something that belongs in the final chapter.

I will try to summarize what I have to do atm:

  • Add new props, you know which one
  • Add new gory Hires textures using the "new stuff" :)
  • Prepare and Shoot r8s for several enemies (for Shoot I need to check which one have been done and add them but I can't do them)
  • Need to finish Hires colored brightmaps
  • Remove Lowres sprites and replace them with all hires art where needed (but I highly suggest to keep pickups & props as they are for C2)
  • Check models and see what can be improved
  • Check actors and fix them decorate-wise, accordingly with overall playism inside maps (reload & retreat) and visual (scale)
  • Check all maps

  • Doom is a State Of Mind... out of Control.
