I played through TNT 1 & 2 today, they are excellent, but ammo is a bit too tight towards the end of TNT 2... of course, that may not be an issue if you play them as an episode... or in co-op mode.

Definitely looking forward to this!

As eager as I am to play this, PLZ take your sweet time, Torm. You did the same thing w/ KDiZD and it was simply AMAZING, hands down best wad in years, if not best ever. Don't rush, take your time, and those who are impatient will be blown away when it finally is released.

Omigod, this looks even more amazing than it did before! Only 5% more. Keep up the great work, Tormentor667! I haven't found a wad worthy of playing since KDiZD. Even Memento Mori seems mediocre in comparison. But this won't disappoint, I can already tell.

Conejo, GZDoom 1.0.24 supports the A_SpawnItemEx call. Update your ports!

Also, the next public beta of Skulltag will support it too; but the versions available now (97c3 and 97d beta4.1) do not.

Finally, while the latest (read: SVN) version of ZDoom does support these DECORATE features; it doesn't support 3D floors -- which means it's unplayable in ZDoom. You need GZDoom in OpenGL mode to play that.

This is THE WAD* I will never forget. I usually do not keep a lot of wads on my hard drive, but this one is going in a special directory entitled "Legends".
Here it shall rest in the company of the greatest pwads ever made, until it is resurrected again to serve its true purpose. And believe me it will not have to wait an eternity ...

Torm! This maps looks awesome! Music, design, atmosphere... Everything is amazing. Voice of marine add dark atmosphere to this wad, sounds very good. Where get you music for the final level? It's sounds better then "Omen" soundtrack. What is a difference of 3 unique classes?? I play every 3 and I don't notice difference.

Holy shit, this is outstanding stuff! I'm impressed just by The Fury of Fire's first map. Well worth the 65 MB download if you ask me. If the rest of the wad is like this then it's an instant Cacoaward contender. 5 Stars!

Excellent. Very highly polished with great maps and great difficulty. I still managed to get "stuck" on a couple of the maps because of their intricateness, but that in no way reduces this ***** star wad.

Extraordinary; if it was boxed up and sold for £9.99 at the local GAME I would buy it (although they would have to redo all the graphics and sounds to make them original). Some impressive sequences, particularly the beginning of Map04. It has the first ever decent voiceover acting in an amateur Doom level. Gameplay not quite as good as the looks (in contrast to e.g. SQUARES.wad) but the overall experience is superb.

Well, Jesus most certainly wept! This is awesome! The amount of work that's gone into this is on the same scale as any factory DOOM or clone. Everything from the shells hitting the deck sounds to the Serious Sam style suicide bombers made me play these, already played, but exceptionally created levels again. This is a must - even at 65MB! This will soon be the highest rated with an easy achieved 5/5. Way to go Tormentor667! Someone give this guy a job! 5/5

As far as I can tell, it's the textures and decorate items which make this pwad look awesome. Excellent job with that.

Most of the gameplay is quite acceptable, however, the areas which pulled my framerate, from the 50 fps inside the hallways and 30 fps when the skybox was visible, into a lag when turning 180 degrees took 5 seconds or more spoiled it for me.

Redownload the latest version numbered 1.02.1, that fixes the bug. Or simply rename the DEC_CLASS in the lump DECORATE in the TNTRES.WAD into DEC_CLAS and it will work as well.

Not bad, but I was hoping for a bit more then just a bunch of dynamic lighting and voice acting. I noticed that despite the fact that you're using Gzdoom, you didn't take advantage of it's 3D floors. You were still using the old fashion bridges. What's up with that?
The different classes seemed kinda pointless too. The scout was a useless class. You got 70 health and started with a pistol. Who's going to choose that when they can just be the commando, who has 150 health and starts off with a minigun that fires faster then the original chaingun, and does more damage? You could have also made it so that each class only gets one of the new weapons. The scout could get the flame thrower, the soldier could get the big explosive cannon thing, and instead of the commando starting off with the minigun, that could be the weapon he could get.

Impeccable. Honestly, this is some of the very VERY best Doom I have played, and I must have played hundreds of wads over the last 13 years. Every single level is a work of (high) art, in looks AND gameplay. Perhaps Scythe 1+2 are a tad more pure immediate, purist Doom fun, but as a modern Doom production, UTNT is otherwise perfect. Also it's far more consistent than KDIZD. 5/5

I keep getting this weird thing where there's a ton of dark red diamonds with ! marks on them floating in midair. I figure this is supposed to be some sort of sprite/effect, and its missing, giving me the ! placeholder.

I'm using 1.0.30 of GZDoom...any ideas?

with map 2, with the walkover hanging bridges, I cannot pass over them (or yet, through them). All that happens is I fall straight down after hitting an invisible barrier and into the lava for instadeath.

I checked the map itself to make sure that this is no map bug. The orange skullkey doesn't execute any special and bexond doesn't have a tid. Next to that, there are no other fadeto(); specials in the script except that single one so I consider this to be a GZDoom bug, I already posted it in the official forum.

If there's anyone who complains or critisizes this, I'd really like them to show me the wads they worship and I'd be glad to play them as personally I just don't see how it gets any better than this. This is a work of art, the visuals, complexity, atmosfere, immersiveness, and for a change in zdoom mapset, great tough gameplay. My personal favorite parts were fury of fire and armory of pain. One of the best ever!

Of all the zdoom mapsets which emulate the quakish atmosfere, this one, hands down beats all of them, this is a must! For me the highlights were the ep2&3, which somehow capture the atmosefere and feel of pure modern dooming best. I also have to comment that I liked the choice of alt. endings in ep4, as I personally really liked that "void platform part" that is cut down if you take the regular ending, in fact I wish it was somehow incorporated in the rest of the episode...

Play or die! This is my fav levelset of all time! Provided you have a machine which can handle it. A run through "Armory of pain" and "Damnation's keep" should make even the most nitpicky doomer (like me), satisfied regardless of your taste. I loved both of alternative endings to ep 4 aswell. 5 episodes of pure doom awesomeness, daniel's definitely the leading doom mapper now, can't wait to play zdoom community project, keep up the good work!

that was a hard one.
Great maps, impressive construction. I really liked the large amount of custom monsters - almost felt like an entirely new Doom game. The episode is VERY hard though (and I played on Normal), I had to quickload soo many times in each map... It's okay in a way, as I don't mind a challenge, but sometimes it really got annoying. A more tactical approach seems to be needed here, like making proficient use of cover (and also crouch).
The use of a whole lot of Quake textures from various sources was nice and they were used in a unique way. I don't know if I would accept such combinations in a Quake map though. Good secrets and awesome easter eggs (even found the alternate ending).

Highly enjoyable, but clearly not for everyone: Only if you don't mind large maps, high monster counts and hardcore combats.

Absolutely great job! I was getting bored of WADS and this got me back into them again.

I do have a question though ... I have no problem playing through the levels (no lag or anything) but save/load takes forever! Loading takes upward of 15-30 seconds sometimes while saving is usually 5 or so which is not too bad.

1.66 Ghz dual core + 1 gig of ram. Not enough? Are there any settings I can change/lower that might help?

With the latest build I get the same error as kikoolol.

I've been looking around for a download of an old version of GZDoom but it's very hard to find. Best I could do was get 1.1.2 which I received the decorate error. With the latest version I get the ec_sfx error.

I've just downloaded 1.1.1 and will give that a shot.

Works fine now, I got stuck in episode 3 a02 tho', went through the yellow key door, flicked the switch, killed the ghosts and that was it, nothing else happened, explored the whole level, all monsters killed, but couldn't exit or anything.

All cool, must compliment you on the maps, had a blast playing them. I thought I'd give doom a blast for the first time in around 5 or so years. Professional quality levels, presentation etc.. Great to see how far everything has come. I've now downloaded and played all your doom maps, is there any other level makers out there you'd recommend to check out?

...it works fine for me with the latest build but expect v1.0.5 to be released soon, that should work with every version since the latest official release.

And don't expect any more TNT chapters, I am done with it and I doubt that I can get any better than UTNT!

Start GZdoom or ZDoom with the command line parameter "gzdoom.exe -host x" where x is the number of players who will play this multiplayer game. Other players just need to connect now. For further help, go to www.zdoom.org and ask in the forums ;)

Uhmm wow. During the third stage after I battle the ghost like imps, I try to go back to first section of the level but I get forced outside of the level with a shit ton of hom effects. This happens at the dividing line that separates the two halves of the stage. I have to use noclip to get back in the level. WTF? I'm using GZDoom 1-1-06

A screenshot wouldn't do much good as all you would see is a messy blur of HOM effects. Coordinate wise, like I said before, it happens right at the dividing line of stage 3. The part that divides the stage in half. I try to back into the first part of the stage, since it has been powered up, but once I try to get into the hallway that was locked by the blue key, I'm suddenly outside of the level. The game tries to make a save state at this point as well. Loading the save results in being in a very messy blur due to the HOM.

I think that this may have happened to me, i remeber suddenly being way outside the map and having to noclip back into it, i can't really remember where it was although it could well have been in the area that Sonikku7 has described

Hi Torm, I want to inform you that UTNT is still not suitable for ST, according to "Ill think about it, however map tnt03a1 is completly unoptimized, 70kB/s per player on start...." this sentence of Supergod at ST forums. When I get the Rocket Launcher, ok it selects automaticaly, but if I change to another weapon I can't select the Rocket Launcher again! If you use the IDKFA cheat you will note that you can't select the BFG9000, chainsaw, fist and the Rocket Launcher...

ps: I use GZDoom 1.2.1 (or 1.2.01 as the GZDoom's website say).

Can anyone confirm this bug? Have you also tried an older version of GZDoom to compare this with? As far as I know, there isn't such a bug in UTNT, so you should definitely try again.

All of Doom weapons must be defined in the KEYCONF lump besides the new ones. I tried this on my wads and it works.

In the 1.1.05 (the one you made for) the BFG, rocket launcher and fist are selectable... At least in that version don't have that bug. I just checked your original keyconf, then I added this:

And then the rocket launcher is selectable in the 1.2.1 version. I think that's not a bug, they cheanged the style of coding in the lump, I don't know the why they did that...

On somebody's web site, he said that there's a Wolfenstein 3D Secret level in The Ultimate Torment 'N' Torture. Does anybody know if this is true? Does anybody know how to get to the level?

You can find the secret in the "Lost Episode", just take a closer look at some of the exterior buildings on the lava sea and you will get a little hint where to look.

At a buddy's house trying to play UTNT coop and all was well and beautiful. Then when we got to map TNT3A1 (the beginning of Episode 3) I'd get booted with a "missing player 2 start" error. Hadn't seen anyone else post about this. Running GZDoom 1.0.2.1. Tried downgrading to 1.0.1.2 since it seemed to be the fix for the majority of the other problems I've seen on here. It gave a decorate error before the game even loaded. I've run around aplenty in single player and I've got to say that this has been one of my favorite experiences in Doom. Hope there's some advice that can get us past this hump without skipping episode 3 altogether. Been trying different methods for a couple hours now. Thanks for such an amazing project! I'm not too concerned with odd bugs here and there. They're bound to happen sometime.
