## How to

#### Add new content to the repository

This is going to be a step-by-step tutorial concerning the technique of adding new material to the repositories. It explains what needs to be done from the beginning to the end to make a new submission appear on the frontpage in the right category. All you need is a graphic program like GIMP or Photoshop and little knowledge when it comes to HTML and webpages - not too difficult, so don't worry or get scared away, it's as easy as typing a new thread in the forum.

 ##### 01 QUALITY CONTROL

Well, below you can find the guidance for adding an article, but who decides which submission is worth being added? This is exactly the freedom you have. Check the code, check the data, check the art - and then it's time to make a decision. Often it is not necessary to make that on your own as you can get in contact with other team members or even the authors themselves to suggest improvements or ask for a second or third opinion. The only thing that's important to look for, is if the submission is complete (gldefs, sounds, credits) and working (no bugs, no errors, no console-hints). From then on, it's up to you what's worth being added.

 ##### 02 Explanation of the topic icons

Each of the special icons (the latter 5 ones from the complete list of topic icons) have a specific meaning. Users are encouraged to use the first two of these. If they don't choose the right at the beginning, I recommend moderating these (if someone posts an "Approved" topic and it's actually a submission). After your check, you can change them to pending (if the user has to fix something), approved (if it is okay) or rejected (if it - well - sucks). So what are the meanings:

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/rep_submission.png)#### Submission

first time posting something, make sure to correct this, if authors use standard topic icons instead

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/rep_unfinished.png)#### Unfinished

mostly for Workshop or if mods consider something as unfinished

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/rep_onhold.png)#### Pending

if it has been considered but no decision has been made due to some circumstances

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/rep_approved.png)#### approved

it is approved by a team member

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/rep_rejected.png)#### rejected

it is rejected by a team member

 ##### 03 Preparation

###### prepare the image

The images used for each entry (no matter the category) are always the same pixel dimensions (250 x 140, transparent PNG) and style (position according to the crosshair). Below is a small example showcase for the "Beastiary" category. Other categories are similar, so if you don't want to hazzle with that, simply use images from other categories as a base and add the new sprites, hud graphics or textures respectively. (the red lines are only there for illustration, they must not be present in the final image)

###### Prepare the file

Download the submission from the author's forum thread. First, you need to make sure if all rules apply (you can find each set of unique rules in the apropriate repository category on the left sidebar called "Submission Rules"), otherwise, the submission would have been pending or rejected. For this case now, we assume that everything's ok. We make sure that the final file is be a ZIP (with the WAD or PK3 inside), nothing else. Credits and information is being saved directly in the included INFO and CREDIT lumps, no additional text file is needed in the ZIP.

###### Login to admin area

Next step is login to the administration are of the page backend. The link for this is pretty easy, just add an "/administrator" after the domain or bookmark [www.realm667.com/administrator](http://www.realm667.com/administrator). The username and password is the same as for your basic account. You will then enter the administration area. Be careful from here: I do frequent backups but I'd appreciate it not having to import one of these as it takes ages. Beyond, if you are not sure what you are doing, just drop a line at the forum before something bad happens. We want to keep the site running, don't we?

 ##### 04 Uploading the content

###### JCE Filebrowser

First you need to transfer the PNG (step 1.1) and the ZIP (step 2.1) to the server into the corresponding directories. For this, we need the JCE Filebrowser. You can find this in the left panel at the bottom, as illustrated in the screenshot. Click the link and a modal window with the filemanager will open for you. It is quite similar to any FTP program or Total Commander, so you should be able to handle this without any problems.

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/04_uploadzip.jpg)

###### Uploading the PNG

The images are located at the "images/content/repository/???" where ??? is the wildcard depending on what kind of resource it is. "Monsters" go into the "beastiary" folder for example, the rest should be self-explaining. With the JCE file browser, we can access this directory easily. As soon as you have reached the right location where the image is to be stored, we click on the "Upload" button at the very right side of the modal window. Now you can browse for the file on your pc, or drag & drop the data, and then simply upload what you've prepared. After that, we are done with the JCE Filebrowser and continue with the ZIP.

###### Uploading The ZIP

Every ZIP file is being uploaded with "DOCMan", a document and file management script. You can access it through the top menue under "Components > DOCman > Documents".

From there, we click on the top button called "Upload" (right to the green "New" button). A new modal window opens with which we can upload the ZIP file, choose the appropriate categoriy (e.g. if it is a monster, it belongs into "Beastiary") and set an appropriate title at the bottem right. Everything else is good as is. Click on upload and as soon as it is done, you can close the dialoge (a prompt will appear on a green background).

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/03_uploaddocman.jpg) ![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/03_uploaddocman2.jpg)

Important Info: Make sure the file has an unique filename, otherwise you will overwrite old files. My hint for this: Add the current date to the file, e.g. "monster\_24052016.zip" (24th of May 2016) to make sure the filename is unique. This is only for new additions, not for updates of existing entries. These MUST be overwritten to avoid redundancies.

 ##### 05 Publishing new content

###### Creating a new content item

Next step is preparing the content item that displays the download, info and credits in a nice-looking way on the front page. For this, we click in the top menu on "Content > Article > Add new article".

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/07_article.jpg)

###### Preparing the content item

As we are a bit lazy, instead of completely recreating the content item for your new resource from scratch, we use a system called "Content Template" that delivers an existing base instead. Below the editor window (where you type your text), we click on "Content Template" and choose the fitting type of repo entry (for example "Repository > Beastiary"). The program automatically fills the editor window with dummy data that you have to complete now according to your new submission.

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/01_contenttemplater.png)

###### Applying the right category

Now you need to choose a fitting Category from the right menue (for example "Repository > Beastiary > Doom" if it is a Doom style monster), it's simple as that. The category defines where the submission will appear after saving it.

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/04_categorychoice.jpg)

###### Filling in the text

Editing the text is pure easy, simply get the info and credits from the forum submission thread and paste them into the editor. You can either type it by hand or copy and paste it from the forum (as long as the formatting has been done the right way by the thread author, make also sure to copy clean text only). Otherwise you have to fix that manually as well. Text is easy. Start with the text.

###### Filling in the download link

We put the text cursor exactly where thew new link should appear (after using the "Content Template", it should be where the Title in the Download box is located, simply delete that and place your cursor) and then we click on the "Document" button at the bottom left.

At the upcoming dialogue, choose the corresponding "Category" at the left, then choose the document that you've prepared before and then, at the bottom left, add a click on the blue "Insert Document Link" button. The new link should be placed in the editor window now.

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/08_downloadposition.jpg) ![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/02_downloadlink.png)

###### Filling in the image material

Last but not least, let's concentrate on the image - which isn't complicated either. First, we click on the image that is already placed in the content item. Then we click on the "Insert/Edit image" button at the editor's bar on the top of the editor window.

Now we need to choose the image from the bottom middle panel, the one we have already uploaded before. Then you also need to adjust the "Alternate Text" accordingly (this is important for Google, let's use the title here again) and at the end, we simply hit "Update" and the new image is there, nothing too fancy.

![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/09_imagematerial.jpg) ![](https://www.realm667.com/images/nicepage-images/10_imagematerial.jpg)

###### Adjusting the content item's parameters

We are almost done, only a few specific things are left to do. When being back at the editor window, you might have noticed that there are also a few more settings for the content item to prepare. At the right, there is a green "Published" button. You can "unpublish" it if you want to save it when it is unfinished to make sure it isn't appearing at the front page.

Before finally saving this, make sure it's a green "Published", otherwise people won't be able to download it. Last but not least, at the "Publishing" tab of the content item, make sure that 1st the dates are accurate (for today's date, not the old one) and 2nd that the author is you and no-one else ("Created by").

If everything's checked and you are sure that you didn't make an ugly mistake, just click on "Save & Close" and test if your new entry gets displayed at the frontpage.
