Some people simply don't understand the primary function or secondary function of an item and therefore dismiss it immediately because it doesn't suit "their" standards or personal preferences. A slow ball of plasma heading towards a group of demons gives you time to queue up the next weapon for maximum DPS or several Slow plasma balls towards a boss monster, oh...say a cyber demon, Overlord or Spider Master Mind. They'll impact the boss monster whilst you're giving them hell with a minigun. It seems fine to me.
