The resurrection of Doom Wad Station

#####As many are aware, Doom Wad Station went off line some time in the middle of December. After speaking to the current owner of the domain, who has no intention of restoring Doom Wad Station to the internet, Brad_tilf received his permissions to retain the name and put Doom Wad Station back on the internet. The current domain is now http://www.doomwadstation.net. More information can be found over at Doomworld.

The Secret of Doom Island

##### The Secret of Doom Island Growing up in the 90's makes you experience a lot of classic releases. People who know what I mean simply love these games, others might absolutely not be able to understand what's so "special about pixels and 8-bit". One of the greatest hits in these times has been The Secret of Monkey Island. For everyone who agrees, Arch has just released his first version of Pirates Doom over at Zdoom.org. It's actually a mixture of Monkey Island and Doom featuring hand drawn graphics, nice cartoony textures and fitting music in a perfect caribbean atmosphere. Give the Scumm Bar a try!

The serpent riders' origin

##### The serpent riders' origin "You are a young Sidhe elf looking for a way to prove yourself as a great adventurer. You heard a bard tell of a rumor of a castle to the west that was decimated by an army by a fearsom monster wielding powerful magic. Knowing no fear, you take a boat and set off across the sea to confront this adversary, not knowing the dangers that lie ahead..." This is the whole story about the prequel that rf' is working on for several months and years now. In my eyes, this is one of the most ambitious and interesting Heretic projects to date. It's not released yet but the screenshots look very promising. Check out the teaser development thread over at ZDoom.org for more information.

The source of inspiration

##### The source of inspiration You know, it can happen to everyone at any time, the evil thing called Mapper's Block. If you are a mapper, you most likely ran into one or even more of these bastards already for several times, depending how actively you are involved into this type of Doom modding. People have already asked me several times what can be done about this, and for me one of the best solutions is to study other people's work as a base for new ideas and inspiration. Two sources that are less known but very active are the two "Work in Progress" / "What are you working on" threads over at Doomworld.com and ZDoom.org where mappers are presenting screenshots of maps currently under development. It's definitly worth browsing through and getting some new and fresh ideas if you are running into a mapper's block. Check it out!

The story continues

##### The story continues Just spotted the release of Doxylamine Moon: Overdose over at Doomworld and did a quick playthrough. Considering that well-designed and filled with lots of stuff to discover (it's actually a huge city where you can easily get lost), I considered it worth enough to be posted here as well ;) The author says that it's actually based on the Sacrament wad and story (though I actually can't tell as I have never heard of it before) and it's some kind of End of the World scenario that you're gonna encounter. You can find some screenshots and a download link in the actual release thread.

The Triad has returned!

##### The Triad has returned!
The long awaited sequel to Apogee's classic "Rise of the Triad" has been released and even though it's just a fangame, El Zee made definitely more than a simple homage. Expect an almost 1:1 conversion of ROTT's gameplay style and resources but also many more features that go far beyond the original game.
  • All the original weapons from ROTT
  • All the enemies from ROTT
  • Ludicrous Gibs (flying eyes, etc.)
  • Dog Mode / Gode Mode / Mecury Mode / Shrooms mode
  • Gas rooms
  • Traps from the original ROTT
  • Moving walls incl. pushwalls
  • Trampolines
  • Multiplayer / Co-op compatible
...and many more features! Wether or not you liked the "Rise of the Triad" this is still a must-play, so go and get "The Return of the Triad" just now. (you need ZDoom in order to play it)

There's life in the old dog yet

##### There's life in the old dog yet After a century (at least that's what it felt like) there is a new release of the client/server sourceport ZDaemon fixing countless bugs and brining it to v1.09. It's just a beta version at the moment but the changes and updates look very promising.

  • New Picture-In-Picture feature when spectating duels.
  • "DVD-like" playback controls (play/pause/forward/backward) while watching demos.
  • New "double domination" mode.
  • Team radar that shows the position of teammates in all team modes.
  • Built in railgun, zooming (sniper scope) and an instagib mode.
  • New, highly customizable font system, offering improved readability of console and ingame messages.
  • Improved unlagged.
  • Much smoother movement for higher ping players.
  • Clients can control the number of incoming packets (user-selectable fineticks).
  • Tons of coop fixes that will make the mode much more enjoyable!
  • Greatly improved Heretic support.
  • Increased playerlimit from 16 to 50.
  • Working polyobjects.
  • Much improved wine support (linux) for the launcher and ZRC.
  • Several new DMFLAGS for improved fidelity to doom2.exe.
  • Improved team balancing; it should result in more balanced team games.
  • A new update mechanism in ZLauncher that ensures proper and easy updates of all game related files. The mechanism will significantly simplify later upgrades to newer (beta or final) versions.

A complete list of changes and the download link can be found on the official homepage.

Three Is A Crowd feels uniquely different as a vanilla MegaWAD

In the world of DOOM megawads, we are either met with a cacophony of quality (BTSX), a,summary of ingenuity (Cyberdreams), an avalanche of enemies (Hell Revealed) or an accolade of fun and exciting times (Demonfear). Scypek2 participated in the NaNoWADMo last year with his megawad Three Is A Crowd, creating and finishing 19 levels, but obviously the end was not near, and so work continued. Recently, the full package came out, with Scypek2 getting assistance from a little help of his friends, with names like Doomkid, Ribbiks, Valkriforce, Chaingunner, MTX1996, OSJCLatchford, Doom_Dude, Bolymr, EarthQuake, 129thVisplane, Eradrop, Ryath all contributing in some way, shape or form.

Three Is A Crowd tells a story of three people, facing different challenges as they set off on separate yet intertwined paths. It also shakes up the usual techbase-hell progression a bit. Overall, it's considerably vanilla, with just a few new textures, but it has its own unique feel and features plenty of variety and surprises among the levels... if you're playing in a port that supports demo playback, just stay on the title screen for a while and you'll see what I mean.

When you view the screenshots, its obvious Three Is A Crowd does not ''feel'' like your usual megawad. What is on display, highlights new and unexplored caverns of creativity leading to a levelset that, atleast by its looks, definitely is in a league of its own, with mostly stock textures. Equally impressive is the extensive range of vanilla trickery employed here. From 3D beams to cleverly constructed sector lighting, Three Is A Crowd is both a looker and a stunner at once and manages to be one of the more ''unique'' looking WAD sets seen this side of summer. Are you prepared to eat your slice of DOOM a little bit different this time around? Then check Three Is A Crowd out,  a WAD set that could very well be the surprise release of 2020.

##### Threshold Of Pain II - Demo!
Threshold Of Pain II is the sequel to 2010's Cacoward-also-ran Threshold Of Pain.
