Threshold of Pain SE

##### Threshold of Pain SE Scalliano has just released the special edition of Threshold of Pain, what is a cosmetic upgrade of the first installment. In light of a number of advancements in the (G)ZDoom engine which ToPII makes use of, for the purposes of consistency it seemed only right to backport them into the original, all with the sole intention of making the mod a bit more Playstation-y. So that'll be the subtractive blending, then. A download link and further information can be found in the official thread.

Time for some /newstuff vacation

##### Time for some /newstuff vacation It's getting colder, it's getting darker (at least here in Europe and the northern hemisphere) and with two more days until Halloween and one more month until my environment is fully teinted in white, it's about time for some vacation I guess - the Caribbean, the Mediterranean.. somewhere with more than 5°C. Though if you are out of money doesn't mean that you are out of luck, as there is still Doomworld's /newstuff that gives a hand with that, especially Doorhenge who delivers us a nice remake/port of Duke Nukem's "Life's a beach" directly to Doom, filled with beaches, pools and boobs. Worth enough to also check the rest of this editions releases, it's worth - you have the time!

Time to choose!

Doomjà-vuAfter we have played all 6 entries and made sure that everything is fine in terms of rules and setup, it's time to start the final poll to find out who has one the Doomjà-vu Contest here on the Realm667. The contestants' maps, the results and also the instructions on how to participate on the voting can be found in the official thread here on our forums. Take your time, play the map and tell us your decision. The more votings, the more deserved the result - which will be clear on 1st of May in about 10 days. So thanks to anyone who has participated and let's see who wins the awesome and priceless trophies.

To beat the very best: Team Rocket 2 speedmap project Beta 1 released

What do you do when you want to craft your skills in limited time? Then you call Jimmy, the resident Joyful Mapper of the Doom community at large, and you ask him to set up a speedmapping session, producing a megawad for Boom-compatible ports, in a mere 24 hours. And oh, all done in a livestream. This is Team Rocket in a nutshell. The first session was such a success, that Team Rocket 2 has been on its way. Headed by Jimmy, Dragonfly, AD_79 and MTrop, The premise remains the same as the first session: Be the very best. Guest mappers are allowed to join in on the 24 hour run and provide guest maps, which obviously will see regular breaks being made as to avoid burnout. As such, The team aims for 16 hours of continuous mapping. With the first beta now released, Jimmy's participation has become a Seal of Approval for quality within the community, so what are you reading this piece here on Realm667? Head over to the thread and try to beat the very best!

Tomb Fetus

Tomb Fetus is a free-for-all party arena shooter total conversion for Zandronum by DrPySpy. The mod is inspired by a variety of shooters, including Quake 3 and Team Fortress. Get together with some friends and duke it out in a variety of environments with an odd cast of brand new and vaguely familiar characters, including a handful of special guest characters! The number of maps and characters in the initial release version has yet to be decided, but the author can promise a minimum of 12 entirely unique weapons to decimate your friends with! Tomb Fetus will also provide a diverse selection of FFA gamemodes, including adaptations of Instagib and Last Man Standing. For screenshots and more details check the development thread over at ZDoom.org.

Torment & Torture : Classic Episode 1 Remastered

Do you remember "www.newdoom.com"? That classic Doom website that was launched prior to the release of Doom 3? Well, yes it's long time gone (and so is that third installation of our beloved classic). What makes me remember that website though is the Wad in a Week contest that was held back in December of 2000 when I created my submission and won a Doom shirt... and it started it all for me somehow as it was the very first step towards greater mapping. Oh - and it was the first episode of my Torment & Torture series. In case you haven't played it yet, you now have the chance to take a closer look at the classic episode with some additional twists - not as in the UTNT variant, but a more cleaner style, but with some quality-of-life-improvements:

  • Added a new statusbar (base by NightFright)
  • Added widescreen graphics (incl. additional ones)
  • Added a new palette
  • Added dynamic lights (removed sector light effects)
  • Added special effects (volumetric light, fire particles)
  • Added brightmaps and gl-lights
  • Added gore effects (Nashgore)
  • Added hires sound effects
  • Added low-health effect
  • Added boss cast
  • Fixed various obivous things (aesthetics)
  • Improved language
  • Improved colors for messages and statusbar graphics

As you might see, it's not much, but it should make up for a reason to replay this historical map - historical at least for me. Enjoy the remaster and look forward to some more to come. Thanks to Ozymandias81 and Salahmander2, without you, this release would not have been possible at all.

Torment & Torture : Classic Episode 2 Remastered

Two years after the release of Torment & Torture, I finished another take on this setup, this time called The Armory of Pain. Luckily the remaster didn't take me yet another two years (thanks to the help of Ozymandias and Salahmander). To date, this was the largest Doom map I have ever created. Despite its size, it was filled with intricate details (at least back then it wasn't common), a variety of styles, and a number of surprising events. As for the first remaster, Torment & Torture 2 Classic Remaster features some quality-of-life-improvements - and a lot of memories:

  • Added a new statusbar (base by NightFright)
  • Added widescreen graphics (incl. additional ones)
  • Added a new palette
  • Added dynamic lights (removed sector light effects)
  • Added special effects (volumetric light, fire particles)
  • Added brightmaps and gl-lights
  • Added gore effects (Nashgore)
  • Added hires sound effects
  • Added low-health effect
  • Added boss cast
  • Fixed various obivous things (aesthetics)
  • Improved language
  • Improved colors for messages and statusbar graphics

As you might see, it's not much, but it should make up for a reason to replay this historical map - historical at least for me. Enjoy the remaster and look forward to some more to come. Thanks to Ozymandias81 and Salahmander2, without you, this release would not have been possible at all.

Torment & Torture : Classic Episode 3 Remastered

With Torment & Torture 3, I was quite faster considering the build time. In about 4 months, I was able to finish The Fortress of Damnation, with a total of two maps and a lot of twists that heaven't been seen in a Doom map yet, for example four totally new monsters and a new weapon without overwriting existing assets. What was that ZDoom-sorcery? This was planned to be the final installment in the Torment & Torture series, and well, I lied as we all know. As for the other two remaster, Torment & Torture 3 Classic Remaster features some quality-of-life-improvements but is a purer experience compared to TUTNT - so what's in there?

  • Added a new statusbar (base by NightFright)
  • Added widescreen graphics (incl. additional ones)
  • Added a new palette
  • Added dynamic lights (removed sector light effects)
  • Added special effects (volumetric light, fire particles)
  • Added brightmaps and gl-lights
  • Added gore effects (Nashgore)
  • Added hires sound effects
  • Added low-health effect
  • Added boss cast
  • Fixed various obivous things (aesthetics)
  • Improved language
  • Improved colors for messages and statusbar graphics

Torment & Torture : Classic Lost Episode Remastered

With Torment & Torture Lost Episode, the Classic circle can be considered as finished. In about 4 months, together with Ozymandias and Salahmander, I was able to finish Fury of Fire, a single huge map that will twist your bones. The whole remaster-procedure has been applied and the way has been set for the upcoming UTNT remaster that we are currently working on- so what's in there?

  • Added a new statusbar (base by NightFright)
  • Added widescreen graphics (incl. additional ones)
  • Added a new palette
  • Added dynamic lights (removed sector light effects)
  • Added special effects (volumetric light, fire particles)
  • Added brightmaps and gl-lights
  • Added gore effects (Nashgore)
  • Added hires sound effects
  • Added low-health effect
  • Added boss cast
  • Fixed various obivous things (aesthetics)
  • Turned everything into ZScript
  • Improved language
  • Improved colors for messages and statusbar graphics

As you might see, it doesn't seem to be much, but it should make up for a reason to replay this historical map. Enjoy the remaster and look forward to some more to come. Thanks to Ozymandias81 and Salahmander2, without you, this release would not have been possible at all.

Total Chaos

Before you go on reading, make sure to click on the screenshot to the right. You did? Yes? And before you ask now "Why is this Doom news?"wadaholic This is what I've asked myself as well when I first spotted a screenshot about Wad'a'holics Total Chaos total conversion on ZDoom. This is Doom! ... well yes, to a certain extent, it's at least based on Doom sourceports and runs with a Doom IWAD, but that's all about it. The mod is an open world survival horror where players are dropped on an island with a video camera to explore the deadly surroundings. The island was once run by a community of coal miners which one day suddenly disappeared, leaving behind the abandoned concrete jungle to waste away. Total Chaos is a sandbox mod, so the player has freedom of choice of either finding the lost community, surviving on their own against the islands deadly forces, or explore the island to uncover its most hidden secrets.
