Total Chaos 1.0 released

Finally Wad'a'holic released his finished version 1.0 of Total Chaos, a total conversion mod for Doom 2 that runs on the GZDoom source port. The mod is a survival horror set on a remote island known as Fort Oasis. The island was once run by a community of coal miners which one day suddenly disappeared, leaving behind the abandoned concrete jungle to waste away. Something, clearly, has gone very wrong with this place. Upon your arrival at Fort Oasis, you receive a strange radio transmission. Someone wants to he found. The further you travel into the concrete jungle, the more the situation ends up unraveling, and where you were heading is no longer clear. Find letters scattered around the world and uncover the mystery of what happened. What's new you ask? The new version fixes stuttering and adds motion blur, lens flares, noise and vinettes (thanks Nash). It is also 1GB smaller in file size!

Total Chaos is here!

If you ask yourself "Why is Tormentor667 posting screenshots of next-generation games?" the question has definitely a reason for being. Total Chaos is actually the project, that pushed GZDoom not only to the edge but even beyond. Wad'a'holic has created a totally new game with an intense atmosphere and impressive graphics and mechanics only by using Graf Zahl's sourceport. So what is it all about?

Transforming Doom

Resident Evil DoomAfter Doomero has turned GZDoom into Mortal Kombat some years ago and also managed to realize Donkey Kong Country in the 2.5D engine, he finally started to convert Resident Evil - and he is obviously doing an interesting job so far as you can see in his gameplay movies at ZDoom.org. Sure thing this is far from being finished (and most propably another project that never sees a final version) but at least it shows off again what can be achieved with some clever coding and enough imagination. Give it a shot.

Travelling to the Moon

travelmoonA few days ago, The Trigger released his boom-compatible single map wad Travelling to the moon as an first release candidate to the masses and boy, it's fantastic. For a boom compatible map the visuals are simply fantastic and the map itself plays very well. It was designed in about 5 months (maybe a bit more) and it is a rather large map (it was intended to be short/medium at first though). It is a map I made as a breather from his "Fortress of Misery" map and well, let's just say that it took the forground rather quickly. Get the file and make sure to load the CC4-Texture pack alongside so everything looks just the way it was intended to look.

Trench Foot

Step into the boots of Master Templar, the fanatical and ruthless enforcer of the one true faith. Pick your way through the disease ridden, irradiated trench works of Cretu and wage apocalyptic holy war on the sinful enemies of the caliphate. Survive the evil unleashed by heresy and struggle with over 15 (and counting) new enemy types, from corrupted militia and cultists to demonic netherworld horrors. Utilise 14 holy instruments of war to excommunicate with extreme prejudice. Fall to your knees in awe of the holy miracle of new gameplay features and visual effects.

Tribute to Ty Halderman

thneodyOne of the most remarkable persons in the Doom community was without any doubt Ty Halderman. He was part of the famous TeamTNT who made The Final Doom and also maintained the /idgames archives for a long time. He sadly passed away last year and is missed since then. Though the community didn't forget about him and Chris Hansen spearheaded a tribute project for him during the last few months. His goal was to make a great megawad that honors the late, great essential pillar of the Doom community, to show, that we appreciated all his hard work and that he was one of the main reasons why we're still around! Currently the first public beta of Threnody has been released and you can just get it here. Expect maps heavily inspired by works from Ty himself, making him being remembered for all time.

Troodon

troodonJust spotted a new screenshot of breadbagfly's project in progress called Troodon. The primary difference or "twist" on this is that you are anthropomorphic raptor, more accurately an albino troodon. In a vast jungle in obscurity (Insert whole bunch of friggin Lost land references here cant be arsed for plotlines yet), you find yourself to suddenly be a near-extinct saurian subspecies after a chance of finally getting cozy in the jungle which is an achievement itself. Hunted by humans, rival saurian species and suspiciously manipulated wildlife, naturally you are fucking pissed from learning all of that, and your existing reputation as a murderous reptile filled with bad sarcastic jokes and obsession to bizarre firearms only inject more elixir of pain to happily share amongst the jungle of near-delusional hostility. also to uncover the secrets of why shit has gone haywire so oddly because might as well. The screenshots of this mod are very promising, but take a look at this yourself.

TSoZD is not dead!

The Shores of ZDoomGood news for all of us who feared the worst: The Shores of ZDoom is not dead. Due to the lack of progress report and screenshots, people already thought that the authors moved on and the project was dead but then Vader just appeared from the ashes and posted a work-in-progress screenshot without any further comments except that they are still on it. Glad to hear, glad to know, now I want it. Oh and by the way, any news about Mordeth while we are talking...?!

UAC Invasion: Supply Depot

A map that DooMKnight started in 2007 finally nears completion. The mapper was going to present it to a vanilla map tournament that year. The idea was to make a sequel to an old map of him called Europe, but it ended up being so big and complex that he reached the limit of 65536 linedefs and had to discard it for the tournament. So in the end he left it parked and continued with other projects, until last year that he took it back and since then he has been working on it when time allowed. You can already see on the screenshots that this project is made with a lot of dedication and love, as it simply looks stunning. Check the development thread for more information and the official download.
