Are sequels always worse?

##### Are sequels always worse? There are many cases where sequels have been pretty much worse than their original. But we also know cases like Indiana Jones and Star Wars where the second part was outstanding and even beating its predecessor in many points of epicness. Well, we can't tell yet if the ZDCMP2 will be better than the first one, but we are doing our best to try and turn this project into something that's worth being archived for years - and with a bit of luck even replayed ;)

As of now, we are directly in phase 2, which is dedicated to detail, visuals and design-consistency, there is still a huge amount of work left to do but we are going in the right direction as the screenshot already proves (it's about 33% of the whole map, just to give you an idea). So, stay tuned, more to come :)

Ascension - Demo released

Just spotted over at ZDoom.org that the mappers Big Memka and Shadowman released a first demo of their mod Ascension, their new project, which has been under development since 2016. It is the direct heir of Inquisitor III. A modified RPG system, which was developed for the first time for The Inquisitor III, is used. And although in the demo version of Ascension the player is unlikely to be able to advance above 4 levels of experience, but this is quite enough to appreciate the number of innovations of the wad, as well as its atmosphere. The screenshots are already very promising and give a good taste of things to come.

Ashes

AshesI've already followed the development of Vostyok's project Ashes for a while now. At the beginning, I already found it a bit too ambitious but since the screenshots proof, that the author knows what he does, it's time to give the mod a bit more attention. So what is this all about?

"Ashes is a Post-apocalypse themed Total conversion, based upon the G/Zdoom port. Set decades after a worldwide catastrophe has reduced parts of the country to toxic wasteland, the player takes on the role of a scavenger searching the ruins of "The City", a once thriving metropolis, for valuable items. Add bands of mutant cannibals, limited ammunition, and a mysterious group of gas-mask wearing para-military types prowling the rubble."

Sounds a bit like Fallout, doesn't it? If this caught your attention, check the official development thread with a demo download and further information and screenshots at ZDoom.org.

Ashes

ashesJust noticed that there is some news about the Ashes total conversion by the modder Vostyok involving development stuff and most notably screenshots about his post-apocalyptic mod that seems to be heavily inspired by Fallout.  For me it is one of the projects I am looking forward the most as he seems to catch the atmosphere and look very well. It all feels like abandoned places, destroyed cities, lost settings - good stuff I'd say. Take a look at the development thread at ZDoom and maybe give him some feedback to keep him motivated.

Ashes

Just discovered, that Vostyokuploaded a few new screenshots and a showcase video of his Ashes total conversion including a few other extras that totally blew me away. The atmosphere of this post-apocalyptic project is simply brilliant and I am looking forward to the first fully playable version. I mean - riding a motorcycle, isn't that already enough that keeps you eager? This is what the author says about his creation:

Ashes 2063

The mapper Vostyok has released the first episode of his post-apocalypric shooter Ashes 2063 and it's an atmospheric and amazing blast. It is designed to be run in the GZDoom or QZDoom port, and includes support for either software or hardware options. Set decades after a worldwide catastrophe has reduced most of the country to toxic wasteland, the player takes on the role of a scavenger searching the ruins of "The City", a once thriving metropolis, for valuable items. Add bands of mutant cannibals, limited ammunition, and a mysterious group of gas-mask wearing para-military types prowling the rubble. Additionally to the first episode, you can also download a few addon packs already at the development thread. Get it, scavenger!

Ashes: Dead Man Walking

"In the wasteland, death comes fast and it comes easy. It doesn't take much: overconfidence, a moments inattention or just a little bit of bad luck. Carpets of parched bones speak to this brutal truth."  Reformed Joe's project is an expansion campaign ( or dlc, as the kids call it these days), for Vostyoks Ashes 2063. You reprise your role as the Scav, hunting the wasteland for those who tried to kill you. "Dead Man Walking" is being developed with the approval of Vostyok, who has been very helpful throughout the entire process. It Features 3 new levels of mutant-blasting, vent-crawling, radiation-sickness-getting action, 1 new town map, 5 New tracks by Primeval, the very same gentleman who made the awesome Ashes 2063 Soundtrack - aaaaand the same Ashes gameplay you all know and love. You want more? Go for it!

Astral Pathfinder

Astral Path FinderThe mapper Runsaber has just released the first episode of his project Astral Pathfinder. It is a 3-map pack for the 3DGE engine, showing off what the port is capable of in minor instances, while offering a suited gameplay experience from the author's perspective. While difficulties are not implemented just yet, cautionary play is advised, for this is a beta seeking playtesting outside of his own style. You can find more screenshots and the download link at the development thread at ZDoom.org.

At the end of the year... Doom: Perdition is here!

What better way to end the year then with a big and loud BANG!!!. One of the more impressive outings just released at the eleventh hour of 2019 is DOOM: Perdition, a Thy Flesh Consumed successor and episode replacement by newcomer Scorpius. The biggest surprises often come unexpected and DOOM: Perdition arrives with much fanfare, set out to turn you over!

According to Scorpius, ''The goal was to make these maps authentic to the original EPI4 levels without losing its core identity as an infamous episode, particularly with the inconsistent difficulty curve. Most of the maps are designed to resemble the work of American McGee and John Romero. Some were designed in the style of classic megawads, such as Memento Mori, to revitalize the feel and look of the levels, as well as a reminder of the "good old days." It is also designed to be much more difficult than Thy Flesh Consumed, especially on Ultra-Violence.''

Nine vanilla maps await you alongside three small deathmatch levels. If the screenshots didn't amaze you, then its levels may do so! Celebrate christmas the DOOM way, cancel your plans with friends and family and play DOOM: Perdition today!

Atlas Complex

atlascomplexJust a few days ago the mapper Guardsoul released his single map project Atlas Complex - Waste Processing at the ZDoom forums. Atlas Complex series will be a set of 4 independant maps that will take place in an Earth UAC installations with Waste processing being the first one of them and it´s a self challenge of what the author is able to do with OpenGL features without overcharging player´s computer. It is a medium map he finished some time ago but due to work and being enslaved by the Realm667 working with me on Blade of Agony delayed a huge amount of time the release of this map (and with that I mean like 3 months). Well, not as it is released, time to get back to Blade of Agony, eh? :)
