Atomic Island puts quality over quantity, and here's why

Sometimes you come across a project around the corners of Doom and you instantly know: This work in progress oozes quality. Atomic Island is one of those works in progress. Led by Guitardz and Loveless, and with additional work by nxGangrel and Bauul, Atomic Island makes usage of several high quality mods to bring flavor to its twelve maps. Ukiro's OTEX texture resource is used, and Tango's Mini-Charge gameplay mod is incorporated.  By doing so, Atomic Island has a look of its own.

The story focuses on captain Natalie Rage, Earth's most decorated Exterminator. The Marshall Islands has turned into an UAC blacksite named ''Midnight Exigent''. 4 months ago contact was lost with the facility administrator, and the site is presumed to be lost. Multiple UAC marine detachments have been sent to assess the situation, none have returned. It's time to assume the worst: The demons have returned, and are using the islands as a staging area for a new invasion force. Its up to Natalie Rage to clear the base of the demon infestation, close any Hell portals found, and destroy the facility.

Unlike many other projects, Atomic Island is not a community project. Development is on-going, but the developers plan on publishing this before 2021, however, it is coming, when its done. Till then, feast your eyes upon the quality of the screenshots, and keep this one in your save file. Atomic Island is a WAD you may not want to miss.

Back in the 60's

Star TrekIf you have taken a look at the screenshot before reading: No, we are not back in the 60's. What you see is indeed a project by AFADoomer that aims to recreate the spirit and atmosphere of the original Star Trek series with Cpt. Kirk and Lt. Spock. The author has already spent a lot of time obviously and the feeling really catches what I remember from the past (not that I have been alive already back then, but I guess there are few people who don't know about the series). Take a look at yourself in the thread, it's really quite interesting.

Back to Back to Hell

Let your journey to the hell and back begin, once again! Get the demo at the official development thread on ZDoom.org and feel free to drop the author a note with some feedback.

Back to Christmas Carol with DBP19: Jolly your heart out!

Released at Christmas 19, DBP19 is a Christmas themed megawad from various members of the Doomer Boards, with strong guidance from glenzinho, Big Ol' Billy and Phobus. Through 25 maps, the player travels through the various themes of winter, snow, ice and frozen hellspawn. Except even in the cold reality of the winter season, the Imp's still have a fireball to launch against Doomguy.  Amongst the Jolly Rogers and ghoulish reindeers, DBP19 tells the story of Cyberneezer Scrooge, who has frozen time to stop Santa from delivering everyone's Christmas presents. This is release candidate 2, featuring contributions by Phobus, Doom_RO, joe-ilya, Thundercunt, dmdr, Scrangus McBrickdad/Jaxxoon R , glenzinho, Big Ol' Billy, SuperCupcakeTactics and Gaspe. With such a ensemble cast of veteran mappers, DBP19 is sure not to disappoint.  So return back to the Christmas spirit (or fever), grab your shotgun shells... and add some lead to the winter season.

Back to Saturn X again!

Back to SaturnIn case you have missed one of the most anticipated releases in 2014, don't worry, here is a reminder: A few days ago esselfortium has posted the next installment of the Back to Saturn X trilogy with the promising title Tower in the Fountain of Sparks. It's not the final release yet but a public beta for your testing pleasure.

What can be expected? Tower in the Fountain of Sparks takes place on the dark side of Saturn X, where the UAC had set out to uncover the mysteries of the seemingly-abandoned alien cultures that once lived there. Settings include ancient ruins, dilapidated research outposts, gothic temples, and more. As with the previous episode, Tower in the Fountain of Sparks is a fully vanilla-Doom2.exe-compatible mapset, and should be fully compatible with most common ports.

Check the Doomworld thread for more info and support the team with your beta-testing report.

Back to the Future

##### Back to the Future "Everybody knows that most maps from 1994 are pretty terrible, but what if we took maps from the archive that permit modification and then redetailed them?"
This is actually the main purpose of the community wad that has just been released over at Doomworld: To improve maps from 1994. Most maps from that time had strong layouts, but poor design decisions such as misaligned textures, bad texture choices, hidden doors and mandatory secrets to progress. The result of over 2 years of additional work can be downloaded from the official development thread over at Doomworld and also from the /idgames archives.

Bahnhof Fort Schmerzen

WolfenDoom Blade of AgonyFor those of you who aren't actively looking through the forums at ZDoom.org, you might have asked yourself: "What happened to Realm667's very own project WolfenDoom?" Good news: We are still working hard on Blade of Agony and progress is going well. Though, it will most likely take more time than expected. The larger a vision gets, the greater the ambitions are. Thanks to our professional and talented team, a lot of things have been added since our first beta release 2 months ago. What in detail? Well, you have to wait a little bit more but expect a new release quite soon with the complete Episode 1 Demo. Until then, just stay tuned and check the development thread.

Batman Doom for GZDoom

Batman Doom 2015Well, it's nothing official but in case you have missed it, Evil Space Tomato (decorate) and Ozymandias81 (gldefs) have released some patches and additions to Batman Doom which makes them up to par with more modern releases for GZDoom like turning all the actors into DECORATE format and adding dynamic lights via GLDEFS to those actors. The overall Dark Knight experience definitely is getting better with these additions and the whole mod from Ace Team feels facelifted. Let's just hope that both modders continue their work as the addons aren't 100% finished yet. Kudos to both of you!

Better too late than never in all Eternity

##### Better too late then never in all Eternity Just spotted over at Doomworld that the latest version of the Eternity Engine has released around Christmas. There is a long list of changes with numerous improvements, fixes and new features that are worth checking out - not only in a player's perspective. This update also features some EDF improvements, some more steps toward Hexen support, various bug fixes, further improvements to compatibility, and even more speed optimizations. Downloads, more information, and a full readme text can be found in the release thread in the Eternity subforum, just as usual. And if you are too keen to wait, just pick v3.40.20 "Mjolnir" here. Might be a good moment to play the Vaporware demo again...
