Full-color? If the sprites are in 32-bit mode, it's best that they are converted to palette mode (8-bit). You don't necessarily need to convert them to Doom palette if you don't want to, though it's preferable.

I only used full-color so I could use a color that wasn't quite in Doom's default gold range. (#A46A18)
Either way the sprites are already in the range of 500-600 bytes, and converting them to Doom palette seems to make them larger - FRLFA0 for example is 492 bytes at full-color, then becomes 1.27kB when I convert it to a paletted PNG (using SLADE).

In all seriousness, though, matching the Doom palette isn't really necessary. You can use a custom palette to preserve the broader range of golds if you like, though with the filesize as small as it already is, it may be beating a dead horse.
